The Doubts

Everything you're afraid of — and what's actually true

The fears that keep people from signing up are almost always about today. But 29029 TRAIL isn't today. It's 24 weeks away.

The fear

What stops you

  • "I'm not fit enough."
  • "I'm too slow."
  • "I've never done anything like this."
  • "I'll be the last one out there."
  • "I'll fail in front of everyone."
  • "I'm not a runner."
vs

The reality

What's true

  • That's what the 24 weeks are for. You don't need to arrive fit — you need to arrive willing to train.
  • There's no pace requirement. Walk, hike, or run — you move at your own pace.
  • Most people haven't. The plan assumes you're starting from the beginning.
  • You're not racing anyone. Everyone out there has the same goal: finish.
  • This isn't that kind of community. The people around you aren't watching to see you fail — they're invested in seeing you finish.
  • Most people here aren’t. Plenty hike the entire course — the plan builds you up from wherever you start.

The Reframe

You're asking the wrong question

Could you finish 29029 TRAIL today? Possibly not. But the event isn't today — it's 24 weeks from now. The question isn't whether you're ready. It's whether you're willing to get ready.

24Weeks to get ready
  • Give us 24 weeks. Follow the plan. Show up consistently.
  • We'll get you to the 29029 TRAIL start line ready for what comes next.

The Only Requirements

What it actually takes

Not elite fitness. Not a running background. Just these:

You can hike for a couple of hours

That's enough of a starting point.

You can commit to consistent weekly training

It starts with walks and hikes and builds steadily — this is real training.

You can follow a plan for 24 weeks

We'll tell you what to do. Your job is to show up.

You want it more than you fear it

That's the one thing we can't train. Everything else, we can.

The 24-Week Plan

You don't get ready overnight.
You get ready one week at a time.

A structured, week-by-week build made for people who've never trained for anything like 29029 TRAIL.

Build the base
Weeks 1–8

Build the base

Walk. Hike. Build consistency. You're not proving anything yet — you're building the engine you'll need later.

Add the load
Weeks 9–16

Add the load

Longer days. Back-to-back efforts. More elevation. The challenge starts getting real — and so does your confidence.

Get ready for the start line
Weeks 17–24

Get ready for the start line

Your biggest training efforts, then a smart wind-down. You arrive at TRAIL rested, prepared, and knowing you've done the work.

Inside The Plan

You're never doing it alone

The plan tells you what to do. The people around you help you keep doing it.

Before You Commit

Real questions

The things people actually want to know before they sign up.

How much time does the training actually take?

It’s a real commitment — you’re training for three marathons in three days. The plan starts gentle with walks and hikes and ramps up steadily across the 24 weeks, built to fit around a normal life while still getting you fully ready.

Do I need mountains or hills to train on?

No — you don't need hills. You can build the climbing legs you'll need on stairs or a treadmill set to an incline.

Do I have to run it?

No. Plenty of participants hike the entire thing. The plan builds the endurance to move for long days — how you move is up to you.

What if I miss a workout?

It happens. The plan is built with flexibility, and consistency across 24 weeks matters far more than any single session.

What actually happens over the three days?

Three mountain marathons over three days — roughly 79 miles total — with a finish line, food, and rest each day. The training gets you ready for exactly that.
