OUR STORY

It's not how far, it's how far up.

More Than A Mountain

We believe doing hard things unlocks the best version of you

29029 was created to give ordinary people the opportunity to do something extraordinary. We bring together a small group of like-minded people for a weekend experience so transformational that it will unlock a better version of you.

THE ORIGIN STORY

How It All Started

How many vertical feet did you gain? That's the simple question that 29029 co-founders Marc Hodulich and Jesse Itzler routinely asked one another after long runs. They soon realized that measuring a workout not in how far, but in how far up, was an exciting new way to challenge themselves and the idea for 29029 was born. What started as a single mountain challenge has since grown into multiple event formats — including TRAIL, a three-day trekking experience — united by the same belief: hard things change people.

OUR PURPOSE

Why We Do This

In the modern world we get fewer and fewer opportunities to step outside our comfort zones and do something truly memorable. We believe that doing hard things — whether that's climbing a mountain for 36 hours or trekking three consecutive marathons on TRAIL — can unlock a better version of each of us that's too often hidden away.

We've seen the positive impact that these challenges have had on thousands of participants and hope you'll join our community of gritty, committed people.

Who We Are

Our team will be with you – before your arrival and on the mountain – every step of the way. We are committed to ensuring that your experience is one without comparison. Want to speak with us? Click here to set up a brief call!

THE TEAM
CEO + FOUNDER
Marc Hodulich
READ BIO →
Marc has always had a passion for endurance events. His recent accomplishments include finishes at The Leadville Trail 100 Run, Hennepin 100 Miler, Ironman Mt. Tremblant and a sub 4 hour Marine Corps Marathon. Prior to 29029, Marc has founded multiple nationwide event series converging community, athletics, and philanthropy. When he met Jesse, they initially set out to create the best endurance event on the planet. But Marc and Jesse soon discovered in their research that there were no events that were synonymous with vertical gain. They then began wondering, 'What if we brought the vertical height of Mt. Everest, 29,029 feet to be precise, to our participants?' And 29029 was born.
